Contract Firmware Engineer — PID Control Systems
The Role
We’re looking for a contract firmware engineer with strong expertise in PID control loop design and tuning to help refine and extend our cruise control firmware. This is hands-on control systems work, not just embedded plumbing — you’ll be shaping how the system responds to throttle, grade changes, and rider input.
What You’ll Work On
- Tuning and validating PID control loops for closed-loop speed control, including gain scheduling across operating conditions
- Implementing and refining anti-windup strategies and alternative control structures (e.g., P-on-measurement vs. P-on-error)
- Analyzing control loop performance using real ride data and bench/HIL test setups
- Collaborating on CAN bus integration for reading vehicle speed, throttle position, and other relevant signals from the motorcycle’s data bus
- Working within an existing embedded C firmware codebase, with attention to real-time constraints and safety margins
- Documenting tuning methodology and control parameters for future maintainability
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrated experience designing and tuning PID (or more advanced) control loops in an embedded context — automotive, robotics, motor control, or similar
- Strong C/embedded firmware skills, specifically with STM32 IC
- Comfort working with CAN bus protocols and real-world sensor/actuator systems
- Experience with control systems analysis tools (MATLAB/Simulink, Python control libraries, or similar) is a plus
- Automotive or powersports background is a plus but not required — what matters most is control theory depth and the ability to tune for real-world robustness, not just simulation performance
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly in an async, remote-first environment
Engagement Details
- Type: Contract (scope and duration negotiable based on fit and availability)
- Rate: Negotiable, based on experience
- Location: Remote
- Start: Flexible
How to Apply
Send a brief note about your relevant control systems experience, along with any examples of past tuning or embedded control work (code samples, writeups, or descriptions of systems you’ve worked on), to Info@veridiancruise.com
