Cruise Stop Conditions

We know it’s paramount on motorbikes to quickly kill the cruise control in as many situations as possible. Our module will disengage cruise control for any one of the following conditions:

  • Engine RPM rises above 6800
  • Front or Rear Brake Depressed
  • Throttle grip exceed cruise control by 5%
  • Any one of the required CANBUS packets are not updated within 1000 milliseconds

Configuration

The module has a weather tight USB-C connector for changing various settings such as speed increment size, PID gain, and throttle limits.

Diagnostic Port

This kit uses the diagnostic port of your bike. If you need diagnostics you can simply unplug our module and the kit will still run in bypass mode.

Install Difficulty

About 1 -2 hours install time with proper tools. T-harness will override the throttle signals and diagnostic connector will collect important speed data. This kit also requires a single T-Tap connection into the brake wire.

Being in the US, I was concerned with the speed my order would arrive from Canada. Not to worry, it took less than a week.

Installation is simple but would benefit from a better instruction video. You may experience a bit of uncertainty over which connector goes where but in the end they can only go in one way. It’s also handy to pull up an online copy of Honda’s service manual. You may also want to take pictures of which screws and fasteners go where. There aren’t many but they look similar.

The existing video talks about moving the gas tank to run the cable back to under the seat which isn’t necessary. The cable may be tucked behind the frame and zip tied down next to another pre-existing cable.

I installed the switch on the right side handlebar to the left of start/kill button. It looks fine but I need to look into moving it since I don’t want to accidentally shutoff the bike stretching to set or adjust the speed. The formerly available switch that could be attached to the kill switch itself would have been a better location. I have no idea how the throttle by wire system works or if I can move the kill switch assembly to the left to make room for the cruise next to the throttle but it looks like that would interfere with the throttle operation. For safety reasons I’d appreciate more vendor guidance on switch placement.

Once installed, I didn’t need to do any programming, just connect the connectors, dress the cables and put the few removed trim pieces and seat back into place.

The acceleration/deceleration buttons adjust the speed in 3kph increments (~2mph) rather than 1mph which is typical on vehicles in the US. I’d prefer the finer granularity. There is an indicator LED on the cruise module that gets installed out of sight under the bike’s plastic. It would be nice to have a visible indication for when the cruise is engaged. The reach is a little too far where I placed the switch and I inadvertently misadjusted the speed as well as disabled it.

The cruise works well and I’m glad I added it to the bike. It’s a huge advancement over a throttle lock for not a lot of money that just needs a better switch location.

There are a few places to get a discount code for the unit which makes it an even better value.
